This is the postcard of Positano - and for me always was. In my very early days in Positano my partner introduced me to the guardian of this amazing 13thC tower. At the time the owner was still alive and a real live Princess! and like many pricesses she lived to almost 100. I met her once fleetingly but she was pretty tucked away when at the tower. I managed to organize a large noisy group of friends to stay in this property quite some years ago, sure that the neighbours ( there are none) wouldn't mind the noise! I often make a trip to visit Daniele the guardian who lives on the property and maintains it beautifully with updates and yearly improvements.  This is a very special holiday.

Description:
This magnificent Tower hugs the shore line of the Amalfi Coast just outside Positano on the beach of Fornillo and  its 13th century origins are typical of this area and its Saracen history, but one of its more recent owners was a real Princess! Hence the name: Torre Principessa.  Its original pentagonal shape makes it one of the truly outstanding properties on the Amalfi Coast.

In the 1920’s Gilbert Clavel a renowned Swiss contemporary architect and writer embraced this largely destroyed historic tower and nurtured it back to life with his innovative and artistic flair, filling it with his   signature wooden furniture and colourful well known celebrities like Pablo Picasso, Cocteau, Depero and many others. It became a well known haven for the creative elite!

The Tower it perches at the end of Fornillo beach and just far enough away from the summer crowds of Positano (a 5 mins taxi boat ride to the main beach with all its shops and restaurants) to make it a truly peaceful holiday but also close enough for essential easy access. To the far side of the property  is a small private beach directly linked to the tower with a hot/cold running shower and toilet right at beach level. It also has its own private docking area for boat transport in and out of town.

The property itself is a maze of precious corridors, stairways, terraces and niches creating total privacy for individual guests or the possibility to gather on one of the spacious panoramic terraces to enjoy time together or a delicious meal prepared by the villa’s exceptional chef. Angela. It’s thick sturdy walls act as a natural insulation again the summer heat.

Due to the structure of this ancient property, there are many  low walls, narrow staircases  and in some place quite high drops; hence children and elderly people are not encouraged and must be discussed with me on booking.

A small private beach adjoining the west side of the  tower sites at the bottom of a rock face  which very occasionally has a small rock crumble and this must also be taken into consideration which will be specified by the staff. There is however a portion of small beach which is perfect for sea swimming and there is also a deposit for beach towels and umbrellas at sea level with a hot water shower.

The property is divided into three sections. The main tower CLAVEL sleeps 5 pers. and two annex houses PORTICATO sleeps 3 pers and SIRENE sleeps 3 pers.  In total there are 4 double bedrooms and 3 single bedrooms.  There are 5 bathrooms and 2 service toilets. The two annex houses are not available as  seperate rental properties and must be rent with the main tower.  Tower rentable seperately on request only.

Ground floor: modern kitchen with fridge, dishwasher, oven & cook top.
First floor:  The BLUE double bedroom and bathroom with tub & shower.
Second floor: Main living area with fireplace and toward the sea a single bedroom with  bathroom which give access to a totally unique  balcony overlooking the coast with a hand painted tile floor by the famous ceramicist Ernestine.
Third floor: The YELLOW double bedroom, bathroom with shower, tub & double basin.
Air-conditioning in both bedrooms and living area .
*From this bedroom you have the sole access to the wonderful star gazing rooftop terrace.

PORTICATO – Annex

Ground floor:  Delightfully attached to the main Torre CLAVEL by means of a pink subterranean corridor, you will find the main terraced dining area (covered), long generous communal dining table and built in wall banquettes with cushions. Also the principle working kitchen of the villa where the staff prepare meals is found on this floor and a full working laundry run exclusively by the staff is attached.

First floor: The GREEN double bedroom (beds can be separated) & bathroom with tub, shower & two basins. A single “library” bedroom can also share this bathroom or use a small service toilet. Both bedrooms lead onto the generous dining terrace.

SIRENE – Annex –the only section of the villa that is  fully airconditioned.

A staircase will lead you to the SIRENE annex from PORTICATO.

First floor:  the SIREN double bedroom and small corridor to bathroom with tub and shower.

Second floor: single DIAMOND bedroom with own bathroom.

Third floor:  Cosy sitting room with working  kitchenette and  fridge. A staircase leads to a furnished terrace with table, chairs and a cane “pergola” for shade.
A small beach below the property with cold/hot shower and toilet is the perfect private sea access. This property due to its original low walls and position on the coast is not ideal  for elderly people or small children.

House cleaning 6 hours @  day (9 am - 3 pm/6 days per week).

Rental Conditions:
Clients are request to arrive between 4pm and 6 pm.
Owner must be notified if children are in the travel party.
No pets allowed.

Seasons & Tariffs for 2012:
Weekly rents are preferable from Fridays or Saturdays, but alternative dates are negotiable.
Generally the villa is available only during  the summer months from June to end September
A discount will apply to bookings (second, third & forth weeks) that are more than one week.

1st week:     18.000€
2 weeks:      34.800€
3 weeks:      51.600€
4 weeks:      67.200 €

Security Deposit: is 1000 € a week to be paid with final villa payment. This will be reimbursed at the conclusion of your stay minus any extra expenses or damages incurred.
